Your grill is intolerable

I heard about this on my way to work this morning from Neal Boortz.

The Olympic opening ceremony featured a performance by 9 year old Lin Miaoke. After the performance, she quickly received a multitude of attention and fame, with the internet buzzing and even several media interview spots. But it has now been revealed that this adorable little girl was just that, an adorable little girl. She did not sing a lick of the “Ode to the Motherland” performance. The entire performance was lip-synced. The song was in fact sung by 7 year old Yang Peiyi. It was Yang’s voice that the world heard during the ceremony. So why didn’t Yang give the performance? Why was Lin Miaoke chosen to lip-sync the song?

Chen Qigang, the music director for the ceremony, says that Yang Peiyi was not selected for the performance because of her physical appearance, more specifically her crooked teeth. The rationale behind this switch was the concern for national interests, and unfortunately Yang’s physical appearance did not measure up to those interests, leading the directors to replace her with a young girl who apparently did.

It’s nice to see that they understand what is truly important.
