Donald Miller gives benediction for Democratic National Convention
Katrina and I caught the end of the convention Monday night to hear Michelle Obama’s speech. I must say that it was a very good speech, nothing to convince me of why I should vote for Barack, but a good speech nonetheless. But anyways.
After the speech, the news anchors started their dialogue and then I saw a familiar face on the screen behind them. And then I faintly heard a familiar voice amidst all the jabbering. And then I saw the name Don Miller on the stage behind that familiar face. I wondered what in the world he was up there talking about, because you could not make out what he was saying behind the news anchors. So I checked into it and found that he was there to give the closing benediction, to say a prayer. In fact, Cameron Strang, founder and CEO of Relevant Media Group, initially accepted the benediction spot, but later backed out, not wanting his acceptance to be viewed as an endorsement. So instead, the convention invited Donald Miller to give the closing prayer. I thought this was an interesting move for the Democratic Convention, a smart move at that. It is obvious that they know who they are trying to reach and understand which faces will help them get there. Strang’s Relevant Magazine and Miller’s Blue Like Jazz have both gained a very strong notoriety among young evangelicals. And it is that group of young evangelicals who are becoming more and more politically tuned in and vocal.
So now I wonder who will be chosen for the Republican Convention?
